The partnership in the project represents the various components necessary for the developments required in Microscan. This includes the Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) partners who will help develop the prototypes exploiting their particular NDT discipline, The Research and Technology Development (RTD) performers who provide complimentary expertise in the development of NDT inspection systems and PCB assemblies quality systems. Finally, the end users Beta and Microtel will give guidance on requirements, manufacture typical defects and trial the prototypes at their factory sites

The SME supply chain, the RTD expertise and the relevant industry knowledge necessary for successful PCB integrity is spread across Europe. The SMEs involved are experienced in the areas of NDT and the manufacture of PCBs. Thus, X-Tek (UK) builds microfocus X-ray systems for the inspection of all components including PCB assemblies, LOT (Germany) develops thermal imaging and examination systems, MVP (UK) services the PCB industry in terms of AOI and USL (UK) examines PCB components, MIC (Italy) and Beta Electronics (Ireland) are leading manufacturers of PCBs. Within a project of this size it is necessary to incorporate two end users to enable the full production range to be explored and to spread the development cost. Also, this project will bring together world-leading RTD centres in X-ray and acoustic inspection (TWI, UK and KTU, Lithuania) and X-ray software development (FI, Germany).
