LOT is a leading independent manufacturer and distributor of surface analysis, spectroscopy and imaging instrumentation. For over 30 years, they have been supplying leading edge scientific instruments to industry and academia worldwide. LOT represent a number of manufacturers of scientific instruments who are leaders in their chosen fields. The headquarters of LOT are in Darmstadt, Germany and they have sister companies in France, Italy, Holland and Switzerland. The group has 120 employees of whom 60 are qualified scientist and engineers.

Role in the project
LOT will be mainly concerned with the development of thermographic methods of inspecting PCB assemblies. LOT has an interest in developing new and novel thermal pulse delivery systems and in rapid imaging systems to track heat flow in components thereby allowing the automatic or semi-automatic identification of common flaws.

Reasons for participating
The market for PCB assembly will be an increasing market. This is complimentary to many of LOT's activities, which is focussed on this and other industries. Being in possession of an improved system with capabilities of integration in-line with other NDT systems will greatly improve their market share. LOT has the necessary technical and market expertise to participate in these activities.
